The LiPhos project underwent its final Technical Review with the European Commission and expert Reviewers in December 2015. As a result, the project has been rated as very good, with nearly all the objectives and technical goals foreseen in the DoW being achieved. These project results are now opening up a totally new field of scientific research. The final publishable summary report for LiPhos can be read here.

The LiPhos Workshop

The LiPhos Workshop was held in Aarhus, Denmark on 18th September 2015, and was arranged as part of the Scandinavian Physiological Society annual meeting taking place from 18th – 20th September 2015. The conference had approximately 150 participants, of which 35 came to the LiPhos Workshop.

Our workshop consisted of 4 presentations by the following:

  • Dr Guillermo Garcia-Cardena, Dept. Pathology, Harvard Medical School, USA
  • Dr Andreu Llobera, Centre Nacional de Microelectronica, Spain
  • Dr Damien King, Dublin City University, Ireland
  • Prof Sabeth Verpoorte, University of Groningen, The Netherlands

The presentations were followed by a hands-on demonstration of various LiPhos components. Furthermore a number of posters were presented showing results from the LiPhos project.

World of Photonics Trade Fair and EOSOF Conference

As a partner in LiPhos and four other EU-ICT FP7 projects on optofluidics for sensing and diagnostics applications, LioniX organized a dedicated booth at the huge (30,000 visitors) Laser World of Photonics trade fair in Munich in the last week of June 2015. This event had an added visibility and impact as this year has been chosen to be ‘The Year of Light’. At the booth, pictures of functional prototypes were shown and demonstrations were given to exemplify the potential of the emerging integrated optical waveguide technology for applications in a variety of fields which could solve many societal challenges in the near future. In the satellite EOSOF 2015 (3rd EOS Conference on Optofluidics) event, the five projects were presented by posters and other information material, which also gave extra attention to the booth. The booth was well received by the many visitors, of which 35 had a serious interest in LiPhos. Hopefully, some of these will result in future collaborations with partners in the projects!

SPIE Microtechnologies Conference

Two LiPhos presentations were given at the SPIE Microtechnologies Conference held in Barcelona on 4th – 6th May 2015. These were: “Living photonics: monitoring light propagation through cells (LiPhos)” by Prof Andreu Llobera, CSIC; and “Single Cell Analysis Biophotonic Diagnostic Tools” by Dr Damien King, DCU. In addition, a poster was presented, titled “Fiber optics, label-free biophotonic diagnostic tool for cardiovascular disease” by Cristina Rius, CNIC.

See under Presentations for more details.
